LOTR series has basically two types of movies- a) Theatrical and b) Extended, each edition are available in both-DVD and Blu ray format. Extended versions of the movies have humongous amount of extra film footage added to the theatrical editions (approx. 30, 40 and 50 additional minutes for movie 1, 2 and 3 respectively).
HBO Max now has the extended versions of all three films available to stream! Movies. This is a somewhat recent addition. I can’t remember how recently I looked, a month or two ago, and you couldn’t find them anywhere to stream. Now they have all the extended versions of all three films! 131.

Currently the 2011 Lord of the Rings Extended Edition box set (and reprintings thereof) is still the best Blu ray release for LOTR. The "Middle Earth Collection" set is also good for containing all the same content + The Hobbit Extended Editions and Appendices (sans 3D versions) but the packaging is pretty poor compared to the dedicated LOTR
The Lord of the Rings Extended box set is only of the few items in my movie collection that I would recommend to many as a blind buy. The value I get out of it is so much higher than anything else; a 12-hour viewing experience that I revisit at least every 4-5 months, plus countless hours of additional features of all kinds that make the films even more enjoyable.
Yet, the sole hope for triumph over evil lies with a brave hobbit, Frodo, who, accompanied only by his loyal friend Sam and the hideous, wretched Gollum, ventures deep into the very dark heart of Mordor on his seemingly impossible quest to destroy the Ring of Power.
